Week 9, 2007

Week 9, 2007 *(Race to the playoffs...)

The race for the playoffs took another interesting turn as two favored teams, Necessary Roughness and GridIrony were handed a loss. Skoal Bandits continue to be a threat to Wolfens. Wolfens are on a losing streak after doing so well in the first 5 weeks.

Okay, lets get right to the scores for this week:

Argonauts
125.03
Versus
GridIrony
88.00

Necessary Roughness
105.65
Versus
The Dead Rabbits
107.17

Skoal Bandits managed a win...and Regul8rs pulled a stunning victory over The Butchers. GridIrony went down in flames against the up and coming Argonauts. Dead Rabbits pulled ahead of Necessary Roughness in a last minute win that stunned the fans of Necessary Roughness and handed the franchise a bitter loss.

In the News: Epic-X-league is being taken over by League-o-sphere writers since the current staff has not updated the league on time and in some while. Look for the Epic league to be update by November 15, 2007.

Now on to the best players of the week:

QB: Roethlisberger: 31.18 Team Hungry Herpes (Way to go Kyle and Ben)

WR: Bobby Engram: 23.45 Team Wolfens

RB: Adrian Peterson: 31.50 Team Necessary Roughness

TE: Gonzalez: 18.95 Team Wolfens

K: Mason Crosby: 17.75 Team Fighting Marmots (*A great pickup for the team)

DB: Michael Lewis: 12.00 Team Argonauts

DL: Darnell Dockett: 18.75 Team The Dead Rabbits

Around the League:
New England stayed perfect by defeating Colts. Patriots came from behind and for the first time this year could not run up the score...but win they did. At this point Brady is on pace to throw 65 Touchdowns. Perhaps the 1972 Dolphins should be afraid, very afraid for their record.

The Detroit Lions are 6-2 this year, wow.

Greenbay Packers are sitting at 7-1 and have their mind on January football.

The Bengals have lost 2 in a row and are starting to slip into a dangerous pattern of not getting the TD even when visiting the redzone.

Pacman Jones ended up having his one year suspension upheld.

*Okay that does it for NFL news for this week. But lets revisit the League and list the win-loss statistics:

Fighting Marmots: 7-2
GridIrony: 7-2
Argonauts: 6-3
Necessary Roughness: 5-4
Dead Rabbits: 5-4
Wolfens: 4-5

Week 8, 2007

Welcome to week 8. The battle for the playoff spots heated up to a fever pitch this week. GridIrony, the defending Superbowl Champion, found their team facing Necessary Roughness. A team they defeated in the 2006, Superbowl. Roughness then was named Da Ditkas. Since then the team has moved to Cherryville and been given a new name. New name, new season but same rivalry.

Also Hungry Herpes decided to go all or nothing in a hell for leather attempt to gain a playoff spot. The struggling Wolfens once 1st place in the league looking to snap their sudden losing streak. And Skoal Bandits not to be ignored made their own playoff bid. (Total Fantasy points can depend on what team ends up in the playoffs.) Below is the Total Fantasy points of each team as of Week 8:

1: GridIrony: 930.59

2: Fighting Marmots: 885.30

3: Necessary Roughness: 995.86

4: Argonauts: 794.71

5: Wolfens: 853.18

6: Dead Rabbits: 818.52

7: Skoal Bandits: 745.64

8: The Butchers: 697.79

9: Hungry Herpes: 708.57

10: Regul8rs: 705.11

The scores of the week would change the landscape of the playoff picture and shift everything into uncertainty. The results:

Necessary Roughness
87.77
Versus
GridIrony
138.70

Hungry Herpes
81.65
Versus
The Dead Rabbits
81.20

Wolfens
76.68
Versus
The Butchers
84.82

Argonauts
109.54
Versus

The upsets of the week were: Argonauts versus Skoal Bandits. Argonauts came from behind on Monday night to gain a win. The Butchers snatched a win from the jaws of Wolfens. Hungry Herpes managed a huge upset against Dead Rabbits and won by .45 on Monday night with Champ Bailey. And the favored to win Necessary Roughness fell to GridIrony.

The best players of the week:

QB: Tom Brady: 32.82 Team Necessary Roughness (Brady has 30 TD's)

WR: Colston: 25.25 Team Wolfens

RB: Addai: 24.95 Team Fighting Marmots

TE: Gates: 18.85 Team Wolfens

K: David Akers: 11.00 Team Necessary Roughness

DB: Cromartie: 32.00 Team Dead Rabbits

DL: Mike Vrabel: 42.10 GridIrony (3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 TD.)

The match-ups for this week could end playoff chances for some teams or put others in jeopardy of missing the playoffs. Here are the Match-ups for week 9:
*Every team is mathematically alive for a playoff spot week 9.
Argonauts
Versus
GridIrony

Wolfens
Versus
Skoal Bandits

Around the League:

Kevin Jones has returned for Detroit Lions and has given them a reason to hope they can win 10 games this year and at least dream of a playoff run. Greenbay stands in their way. Greenbay is 6 and 1 and playing like a team that is hungry for January football.

Drew Brees is back to form, or close, to what people expect from him. Saints have a long way to go and the road will not be paved in gold.

New York Giants played in London against Miami. The game was a snoozer fantasy wise and for the most part NFL wise as well. Giants got the win: 13 to 10 and ended a muddy day across the pond.
Only Rams and Dolphins have not recorded a win this season.

The Patriots are 8- 0. The Colts are 7- 0. This is not the first time that two teams, undefeated, have met this late in the season. But you have to go back to 1921 to find a time in NFL history that 2 teams faced one another, undefeated, this late in the season. Sunday November 4, 2007, a clash of NFL heroes will happen. At the end of the day one shall stand and one shall fall...

End Week 8

Sunday, October 28, 2007

Week 7, 2007During Week 7 several teams had a shot to make a run for the playoffs.

However, only one team did so. Skoal Bandits. The Bandits have done well as of late. They could take a playoff spot away from the suddenly struggling Argonauts. The top 6 will earn playoff spots.
Okay let get right to the scores:

Hungry Herpes106.30

Week 6, 2007

Week 6, 2007, League-o-sphere

Welcome to week 6. This had some interesting match-ups. Dead Rabbits and Wolfens and Marmots versus Skoal Bandits. One game was close the other was not.

Dead Rabbits swore they'd storm castle Wolfenstein and defeat Wolfens. Wolfens hoped they would not...the results are below.

Tom Brady of New England threw 6 touchdowns against Miami, amazing. He is on pace to throw 55 this year. This would break Mannings current record of 49.

I just had to add that in now, cause that game was amazing. New England could go all the way this year...undefeated and to the superbowl.

Okay onto our league. The scores are below.

GridIrony 105.03
Versus
Regul8rs: 67.32

Dead Rabbits 126.60
Versus
Wolfens 80.41

Fighting Marmots 91.36
Versus
Skoal Bandits 88.21

Argonauts 143.23
Versus
The Butchers 88.68

Necessary Roughness 156.26
Versus
Hungry Herpes 71.68

The best players of week 6:

QB: Tom Brady: 32.01 Team Necessary Roughness

WR: Houshmandzadeh: 25.25 Team Hungry Herpes

K: Matt Stover: 18.00 Team GridIrony

DB: DeAngelo Hall: 20.25 Team Argonauts

DL: Julius Peppers: 21.50 Team Fighting Marmots

Week 6 has seen two teams fall into danger of not making the playoffs. Regul8rs and Hungry Herpes. Both teams need a win week 7 to have a chance of staying in the hunt for one of the 6 playoff spots. The Argonauts have had a stunning turn around. Next week they play Necessary Roughness and this is going to be a match-up to see.

Week 5, 2007

Welcome to League-o-sphere for week 5

As I just said in League-o-sphere week 4, Smacktalk returns. Also Around the league updates some QB issues inside the NFL among other things.

First Smacktalk:

Dead Rabbits: "Time to storm Castle Wolfenstein.....and KICK SOME ASS!!"

*At press time Wolfens Coach had no rebuttal.

Fighting Marmots: "2 weeks in a row without cracking 90. I'm due a big week, and your in the way."

Skoal Bandits: "Doesn't look like there is much fight left in them there Marmots..."

*Fighting Marmots versus Skoal Bandits is going to be a big game. Skoal Bandits is trying to crack the top 6 in the league and Marmots is trying not to spiral toward 10th place.*

Now for the best players of the week:

WEEK 5

QB: Tom Brady: 23.30 Team: Necessary Roughness
WR: Larry Fitzgerald: 20.30 Team: Skoal Bandits

RB: Ronnie Brown: 18.15 Team: Skoal Bandits

TE: Benjamin Watson: 22.40 Team: Hungry Herpes

K: Kris Brown: 27.00 Team: Skoal Bandits

DB: Aaron Ross: 24.00 Team: Skoal Bandits

DL: Jason Taylor: 18.75 Team: Necessary Roughness

If you look at the best players of week 5 you will see that Skoal Bandits seems to have fixed serious offensive and defensive problems with their struggling team. Argonauts have been on the mend and building wins. Only Coach Kyle and Derek are truly struggling. Both Hungry Herpes and Regul8rs face must win games Week 6.

The current standings of the League:
*
The top 6 earn a playoff spot.
1. Wolfens: 575.12
2. GridIrony: 555.98
3. Necessary: 604.55
4. Marmots: 527.38
5. Argonauts: 488.75
6. D. Rabbits: 482.05
7. Butchers: 467.60
8. S. Bandits: 464.15
9. Regul8rs: 450.59
10. Kyle XY: 448.94
*The difference between the highest fantasy point total and the lowest in the League is: 135.61. Necessary Roughness: Highest. Lowest: Hungry Herpes(Kyle)

The outcome of Week 5 saw the last undefeated team in the league fall. GridIrony could not hold on under the pressure of Wolfens. GirdIrony the defending Superbowl champion tied their longest streak without a loss, if calculated from week one. The first year GridIrony was added to the league as an expansion team they went 0-4 before losing a game. In that year, as in this one, GridIrony was the only undefeated team remaining.

Results for Week 5

Around the League:

With three touchdown passes Sunday, quarterback Peyton Manning upped his total in the RCA Dome to 156.(10-01-07 this information was valid) That's the third-highest total by a quarterback at one venue in league history. The list:

Brett Favre 198
Green Bay
Lambeau Field

John Elway
180
Denver
Mile High Stadium

Peyton Manning 156
Colts
RCA Dome

Dan Marion 155
Miami
Pro Player Stadium

Jake Delhomme will have season ending surgery on his elbow. The Panthers are looking at Tim Rattay as a possible back-up. David Carr will be Quarterback. David Carr is the Panthers QB, no longer a stand-in or temp. Carr must prove he can get the offensive engine purring.

Matt Leinart is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Damon Huard--out and Trent Green may not play for some time. injuries have plagued big name stars early in the year. Marvin Harrison, Steven Jackson, Hines Ward, Andre Johnson and Joseph Addai to name a few.

Only 3 teams in the NFL are currently undefeated. Dallas rallied in the final 2 minutes to defeat Buffalo Bills. Romo threw 5 interceptions in that game. You have to go back 20 years to find a team that had a QB throw 5 interceptions and win the game. Nick Folk, the hero kicked a 53 yard field goal, not once but twice to win the game. The first kick was good but Buffalo called a time-out at the last possible moment. The second kick won the game. Dallas really does have a Folk hero...ask Tony Romo, he'll tell you.

League News___

Favre joined the Packers in 1992. He became the starter September 27, 1992, and has never let the job go since. Favre is on the verge of holding a number of NFL records. His team is 3-0 and looks to make it 4-0 this weekend.

Touchdown passes: 420 *Ties Marino, Dan has 420 too. Tarkenton managed 342

Passes attempted: Marino: 8,358 Favre: 8,348

Passing Yards gained: Marino: 61,361 Favre: 58,361

Regular season wins: Elway: 148 Marino: 147 Favre: 150 (*Got this on down.)

Consecutive starts: Favre will have 241 this Sunday. The second longest recorded streak of all time, and the most by any NFL QB. Favre comes in second to Minnesota lineman Jim Marshall. Marshall has a record of 270 consecutive starts. To contrast this just a bit, how amazing this is: Peyton Manning in his 10th season has 145 consecutive starts. Favre is king where QB starts is concerned. Being honest, Manning is great, I doubt Manning can play or will choose to play long enough to break this record. And I say that even if Peyton dodges any and all serious injuries. Right now each time Favre starts so does Manning. If Favre, the living football Legend, chooses not to play after this season, only then can anyone start to gain ground on consecutive starts. Good luck, good luck, to any QB chasing this record.

Favre says: "That's why they have records, so the next guy can break them."

Records fall. But Championships, like true Champions endure. Beyond tomorrow, after the sun sets...on and on. In our hearts, stories and dreams.

You are one of a kind Mr. Favre and when you step onto the field for the last time, I'll cry. Truly. Good luck this year old lion.

Week 2, 2007

Week 2, 2007

Welcome to week 2 of our fantasy league. I asked 3 questions last week. Could the Panthers go 2-0. The answer was no...Houston tore them up. Yes, Houston.

Would Eli play week 2. League-o-sphere voted no, but he did. However the Giants lost and are now o-2.

And yes Wolfens did dominate again this week but they could not hold onto the #1 spot at the top of the league.

Okay now for some Smacktalk: Fighting Marmots: "Relying on matchups are for those who don't know how to draft properly. ;-)
Dead Rabbits: "You've got good matchups Marmots but you're still going down like a cheap hooker."

Kyle of HH:
Lee's gay.
Lets get to the scores this week then we'll list the best players of week 2. The Butchers cleaned up this week and so did Dead Rabbits.

TE: Kellen Winslow: 15.50 of Fighting Marmots

K: Jeff Reed: 14.00 of The Butchers

DL: Bryant Young: 26.25 of Kyle XY's team :-)

DB: Darren Sharper: 24.00 of The Butchers

League news:
Edgerrin James said: "I want to ride all the way to the top with him. I won't let him breathe or give him a chance to slack off. I'll be in his ear constantly, regardless of how he take it." James speaking about Matt Leinart and the wisdom James believes he can give Leinart.

New England, perhaps the team to beat this year, is undefeated. Colts, Pittsburgh, Lions, Green Bay, 49Ers, Redskins, Houston, Denver Broncos & Dallas Cowboys are all 2-0.

Kevin Everett is showing some movement in both hands and greater strength in his leg muscles. Everett sustained a life threatening injury during a tackle, a spinal cord injury. My prayers are with you Mr. Everett

That does it for League-o-sphere this week. Check back week 3, the week the league starts to take shape. Weeks 3 through 6 are pivotal. Exciting times are ahead.

Thursday, September 06, 2007

Week one: 2007

Fantasy football week 1, 2007

Welcome everyone. I usually don't start off with smacktalk first thing, and I won't this year either. A few things have changed. Sweetpea's Minions have left the league. Kyle XY and his team HH have joined. I will not be writing the name of Kyle's team on this blog unless he wins the Superbowl, so that should be never. :p

Also The Bus Drives changed their name to Regul8ers. Da Ditkas moved from Appalachian to Cherryville and so the team felt a name change was in order to fit the new venue...Da Ditkas is renamed: Necessary Roughness.

Now for some smacktalk. Honestly I have chosen to represent only one player for my smacktalk segment this week. When you read it you shall see why. A bit of info first: Ace Bronze is the Defensive coordinator of GridIrony.

Yo, Ace Bronze got mad lyrical skillz, Dead Rabbits checkin in with a rhyme with no frills. I got deep sixed this week but yo man check it, Argos up next, and man, Ima wreck it. I'm gonna take 'em to town while the crowd cheers, it looks like the same sorry team he had last year. Ima bag 'em and tag 'em, put 'em all on the shelves, your record this year? It will be 1-12. As far as this game goes, well you know my pick, Ima lock his ass up just like Mike Vick. Lee and Jay, next on the agenda, do they have what it take to make it through til December? On paper, the Roughness look real mean, but the Butchers'll slice 'em up with the Cutler machine. Lee's matchups are iffy, but his D's pretty stout, but come Sunday, he'll be on the wrong end of a rout. Jay's got my vote to go 2-0, but can Lee dig his way out of the snow, whoa, I don't know, let's check out the next show. The Bandits and the Herpes mackin the next game, but only one of these guys should get a new team name. Their rosters are decent, but the coaches are vexed. Matt won't catch the virus, he'll practice safe sex. The Bandits prevail when you look at the scores....Kyle get that shit checked, it a'int just cold sores. Still, this match-up's a crime scene, just break out the chalk while we wonder if either will change their smack talk. The Regul8rs and Wolfens are next to play, but Russ needs a QB, like yesterday. If he gets one, then good, 'cause the two he has suck. The Regul8rs don't care 'cause they make their own luck. Ocho Cinqo will go off for about 30 points, the Wolfens will fume with their nose out of joint as they watch their team fall from the pinnacle peak and try to regroup for the match-up next week. The Regul8rs move on and the Wolves get the shaft and I wonder if Derrick will ever show up for a draft. Now the games I have listed, well, they're all pretty sleek, but the one that's left is the 5 star this week. Both undefeated, these teams will not stop until one of them takes up their perch at the top. Jerod's got big name talent but it is enough to go toe to toe with the roughest of rough? It'll go back and forth and come down to the wire. And the nod will go to who's score is higher. This game'll be close, maybe too close to call, but in the end Gridirony will get the game ball. That's all I have now, my flow was just right, before all you ask, yes I know that I'm white. (...but I used to be black back in the eighties when I played for Oakland.....) DR out...........

Now for the players with the highest fantasy totals. This year it will list: QB, WR, RB, TE, K, DB and DL.

Argonauts

Wolfens

Three Questions: Can the Panters win 2 in a row? Will Wolfens dominate again this week? Will Eli Manning play week 2? (League-o-sphere votes: No.)

League news: Vick is going to jail. Sentencing is Decmeber 10, 2007.
Colts soundly defeated New Orleans at home. The Giants took all kinds of damage, including Eli getting hurt. Dallas defeated NYG. St. Louis Rams got spanked by Carolina Panthers, Growl!
And Chicago was struck by lightning as the Bolts and LT...who's name actually stands for Lightning Tap, he is the lightning rod that make that offense hum, held Da Bears to 3 points. The Bears were so angry that they commanded: "We will go 15-1 and play The Chargers again in the playoffs." Rather bold statement. Lets see if it holds true.

Thanks to everyone and anyone that read this blog.
End: Week one
